How to Use

Peg Solitaire is a classic single-player puzzle. The board starts full except for one empty hole in the centre. Each move lets a peg jump horizontally or vertically over an adjacent peg into the empty hole directly beyond it, and the jumped peg is removed. The goal is to finish with exactly one peg remaining; the most elegant solution leaves it in the very centre of the board. This version includes an exact search solver that can give you a hint that leads to a winning finish.

FAQ

Why is it called Peg Solitaire?

It is a centuries-old single-player puzzle known in the West as Peg Solitaire or Solo Noble. In Chinese it is often called Kongming Chess, after a legend that Zhuge Liang played it.

How do you play?

A peg jumps horizontally or vertically over an adjacent peg into the empty hole directly behind it, and the jumped peg is captured. Every move must be a capture, and the goal is to leave only one peg on the board.

What is the best possible result?

The ideal solution leaves exactly one peg, preferably in the centre of the board. If you reach a dead end with no legal jumps, restart — or use the hint button to see a winning line.

Can I undo moves?

Yes. Click Undo or press Z to take back your last move, which makes it easy to explore different routes.
